Spoiler Alert Racetalk Beginnings

Good evening friends,

I thought I would share with you all the inspiration for creating Spoiler Alert Racetalk and my unique perspective of the sport.

So, why racing?

First of all, let's address my qualifications for making any sort of educated commentary on motorsports. I have an admission to make here which is, I am in reality an extreme newbie to following this sport - as in the last 6 months. But in that short period of time I have become quite a rabid fanatic and take my daily dose of NASCAR news vitamins.

What caused this sudden change you ask? Well that isn't an easy question to answer. Was it one driver that initially intrigued me to the sport as a whole? Yes, all I knew about NASCAR prior to this year was that if I followed I would cheer for Chase Elliott because he's a super cool guy with a ton of class.

I didn't grow up the the Southeast, or have anyone remotely related to me that was involved with racing. Nor did I play video games or have friends that played racing sim games. Perhaps it was this non-traditional beginning that made me think that I could somehow be a sort of ambassador to help usher in a fresh generation to the glories of the racetrack.

And why NASCAR and not Formula One?

The obvious aspects that interest me about racing in general is the combination of engineering, advertising design and the culture. The last being what sets NASCAR apart in my mind. It is distinctly American, and the history and passion behind what was for many the family business even though I don't share personally in that history it still intensely interests me to learn about it and rekindles the pride I have for America and the hard-working values we fight for. Also, family values being important to me I felt a stronger connection to the drivers and their personal lives than I was ever able to connect with professionals in other sports. That is not say that I'm not interested in Formula One simply that that my focus will be primarily on NASCAR.

As a child, I was fascinated by science and especially space and the history of aviation. Even though cars aren't nearly as "exciting" as planes. The fact that these are loud, fast and "engineered" to some degree is enough to connect the two in my opinion. (Another reason, pilot Chase Elliott wins my fan vote)

Another fun aspect is seeing the design of the cars, which changes week to week. I am not super familiar with how the process tracks from concept to execution on these designs and who gets to have a say in changes or approval of designs but it is something I am exploring further.

What is my goal with this project?

I want to have a unique place where people from all levels of experience and exposure feel welcome to share their thoughts on the motorsports world. I found that it can be intimidating to engage online making comments where the impassioned masses who were raised in NASCAR cradles can quickly mock your ignorance. They are great resources to learn from so don't ever be discouraged! I hope you will enjoy the content you find here and make your voice heard. It's the worth the early awkwardness, I promise.

See ya 'round
